Calcium carbonate powder, one of the main raw materials for the production of PVC flooring, can be divided into heavy calcium carbonate and light calcium carbonate, and there are certain differences between the two.
Calcium carbonate is a white solid, tasteless and odorless. There are two forms of amorphous and crystalline forms. In the crystal form, it can be divided into orthorhombic and hexagonal, columnar or rhombohedral. The relative density is 2.71. It decomposes at 825~896.6℃, and decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide at about 825℃. The melting point is 1339°C, and the melting point at 10.7MPa is 1289°C. Insoluble in water and alcohol. It reacts with dilute acid and emits carbon dioxide at the same time, showing an exothermic reaction. Also soluble in ammonium chloride solution. Almost insoluble in water.
①Particle shape
The characteristics of the powder of heavy calcium are: the shape of the particles is irregular, and the particles have certain edges and corners, and the surface is rough; the particle size varies greatly, the particle size distribution is wide, and the particle size is large. Crushing and refining will not change the crystal form of heavy calcium. Generally, calcite heavy calcium is in hexagonal crystal form, and marble heavy calcium is in cubic crystal form, which is mainly related to the place of origin.
The powder characteristics of light calcium are: the shape of the particles is regular, which can be regarded as a monodisperse powder; the particle size distribution is narrow. According to different grain shapes, light calcium can be divided into spindle shape, cubic shape, needle shape, chain shape, spherical shape, flake shape and diamond shape, etc.
②Taste
Due to the incomplete reaction of calcium oxide, light calcium has a lime taste, and if it is filled with biscuits, it will have a choking taste; heavy calcium does not.
③Particle size
The particle size of heavy calcium products ranges from 0.5 to 45 μm. According to the original average particle size (d), it is divided into: coarsely ground calcium carbonate (d > 3 μm), finely ground calcium carbonate (d = 1 ~ 3 μm), ultrafine calcium carbonate Calcium (d = 0.5 ~ 1μm);
According to its original average particle size (d), light calcium can be divided into: granular calcium carbonate (d > 5μm), micronized calcium carbonate (d = 1 ~ 5μm), fine calcium carbonate (d = 0.1 ~ 1μm), ultrafine calcium carbonate (d =0.02~0.1μm), ultra-fine calcium carbonate (d <0.02μm).
④Sedimentation volume
The sedimentation volume is the volume of calcium carbonate per unit mass after shaking in 100mL water and standing for 3 hours. The larger the sedimentation volume, the smaller the product particle size, the lighter the density, and the higher the product grade.
The sedimentation volume of heavy calcium is 1.1-1.4mL/g;
The sedimentation volume of light calcium is 2.4-2.8mL/g, and the sedimentation volume of nano-light calcium is 3.0-4.0mL/g.
⑤Surface area
The specific surface area of ordinary heavy calcium is generally about 1m2/g, and the specific surface area of heavy fine calcium carbonate is 1.45-2.1m2/g;
The specific surface area of ordinary light calcium is generally about 5m2/g, and the specific surface area of light fine calcium carbonate is 27-87m2/g.
⑥Liquidity
From the perspective of fluidity, the microstructure of light calcium is spindle-shaped, and its own oil absorption value is relatively large, which can absorb components that promote flow in the formula, such as lubricants, plasticizers, coupling agents, and dispersants. Therefore, its fluidity is not as good as heavy calcium, and the addition of more than 25 parts will seriously affect the fluidity;
The granular form of heavy calcium can promote fluidity, and the amount of addition is not limited. If more than 25 parts of calcium carbonate are added to the PVC pipe formula, it is best to use heavy calcium in terms of fluidity.
