Learn more about the PVC industry
What kind of process has the PVC industry experienced? What is the development of PVC today?
PVC was industrialized in the early 1930s. Since the 1930s, for a long period of time, the production of polyvinyl chloride has been the first in the world's plastic consumption. However, in the late 1960s, polyvinyl chloride was replaced by polyethylene. Although polyvinyl chloride plastic took the second place, the output of polyvinyl chloride was still relatively large, accounting for a quarter of the total plastic output one or more.
Before the 1960s, the production of monomeric vinyl chloride was basically based on calcium carbide acetylene, because calcium carbide production requires a lot of electricity and coke, and the cost is high. After the industrialization of ethylene oxychlorination to produce vinyl chloride in the early 1960s, countries have turned to cheaper petroleum as raw materials in order to reduce production costs. In addition, since a large part of the raw material of PVC (about 57% by weight) is chlorine gas, an inevitable by-product of the alkali-making industry, it is not only rich in raw material sources, but also one of the very important products for developing the chlor-alkali industry and balancing chlorine gas. Therefore, although the proportion of PVC in plastics has declined, it still maintains a high growth rate.
Polyvinyl chloride plastic products are widely used, but in the mid-1970s, people realized that the monomer vinyl chloride (VCM) remaining in polyvinyl chloride resin and products is a serious carcinogen. This understanding is undoubtedly to a certain extent. It will affect the development process of PVC. However, people have successfully reduced the residual VCM through other ways, so that the content of VCM in the polyvinyl chloride resin will be less than 10ppm, which meets the requirements of sanitary resin. This move has expanded the application scope of polyvinyl chloride. Even if the VCM content in the resin is less than 5ppm, the residual VCM after processing is very small. It is basically harmless to the human body, and can basically be used as food and drug packaging and children's toys.
Today's polyvinyl chloride is used as the main raw material for the production of PVC floor, and polyvinyl chloride floor is a popular product in Japan and South Korea in Europe, America and Asia. It is popular abroad. PVC floor has good performance, such as waterproof and fireproof. , moisture-proof, zero formaldehyde, etc.
PVC flooring has entered the Chinese market since the early 1980s, and has been widely recognized in large and medium-sized cities in China. PVC flooring is widely used, such as homes, hospitals, schools, office buildings, factories, public places, supermarkets, commerce, etc., PVC floor can be used as floor decoration material.
